Uncle Sam is interested in your prior service experience and would like you to consider reenlisting. Of course, not everyone who has previously served is fit to rejoin. Please look through the qualifications below and consider contacting a recruiter about reenlistment bonuses you can receive. As of May 2012, prior service reenlistment into the Army Reserve can get you up to a $10,000 bonus.
No older than 42 and can qualify for regular retirement with 20 or more years of active Federal service by age 62.
US citizen, permanent resident, naturalized US citizen, or citizen of the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, or the Republic of Marshall Islands.
You need to be a high school graduate for reenlistment.
Must have a qualifying aptitude score for MOS in which enlisting and specific test score requirements of the MOS or option for which enlisting. The MOS aptitude score does not apply if enlisting in former MOS. Must have ASVAB scores on record, regardless of test date, provided all line scores are present.
- Had to have completed US Army basic training or initial active duty training.
- Must meet medical retention standards (looser standards for those already in service) of AR 40-501, Chapter 3 if re-enlisting within 6 months of release from Active Duty. If currently serving and have a physical on file from the past 5 years, you may be processed as “No Medical Required.” If the applicant has 180 days or more of active service OR they are MOS qualified and have been in the Reserves for 6 months after MOS qualifying, then the applicant has to meet the height and weight requirements listed in the Army Weight Control Program (as detailed in AR 600-9). If the applicant has 179 days or fewer of active service OR has served in the Reserves less than 6 months, they are treated like new recruits and must meet the standard height and weight requirements detailed in AR 40-501, Chapter 2.
- Pregnant applicants will not be enlisted
- Applicants must meet all other physical requirements for their specific MOS – the entry level physical profile serial code and the Physical, Upper, Lower, Hearing, Eyes, Psychiatric (PULHES) in accordance to DA Pam 611–21, Chapter 10.
- Waivers will not be considered for applicants not meeting the body fat standards of AR 600-9 or the medical retention physical fitness standards of AR 40-501, Chapter 3.
- No waivers for failing drug, alcohol, or HIV tests.
- All soldiers are required to have a completed physical prior to attendance at the Warrior Transition Course.
You are fine if any of the following is applicable to you:
- Have no spouse or dependents
- Have no spouse and are paying child support to one or two dependents
- Have an entry grade of PV2 or below, are married, and have two or few additional dependents
- Have an entry grade of PFC, are married, and have three or fewer additional dependents
- Have an entry grade of SPC or above, are married, and no regard to number of additional dependents
- Spouse is member of active or Reserve unit of any military service, have one or more dependents under age 18 that were dependent while applicant and spouse served simultaneously.
- Have no spouse, an entry grade of E-3 or above, and paying child support for three or fewer dependents
You don't meet dependency requirements if any of the following apply to you:
- Have no spouse but have custody of one or more dependents under the age of 18
- Applicant is processing as part of a husband/wife team and both are required to attend training at the same time and have one or more dependents under age of 18
