Major Duties: 

A Systems Automation Management Officer supervises information processing units as well as the installation and activities of those units. They also advise a commander and his staff on effective automation policy and implementation. In addition, they also formulate procedures for contingency operation during system emergencies, outages, or maintenance downtime.

Qualifications and Prerequisites
Other Qualifications: 
  • MUST be an officer
  • Must meet ONE of the following requirements
    • Successful completion of the Systems Automation Course (SAC) at the Computer Science School, U.S. Army Signal Center, Ft Gordon, GA.
    • Possess a graduate degree in Management Information Systems (Business) or a related discipline.
    • Possess an undergraduate degree in Management Information Systems (Business) or a related discipline and have successfully completed Training With Industry (TWI) in a related discipline.

A Functional Area (FA) is a grouping of officers by their particular technical specialty, which often requires significant education, training and experience. An officer may receive his or her functional area between the 5th and 6th years of service. Many factors such as individual preference, academic background, performance, training and experience, as well as the needs of the Army, are all considered during the designation process.
