MOS Details
Major Duties: 

The machinist supervises and performs the fabrication, repair, and modifications of metallic and nonmetallic parts and supervises metalworking shop activities.

Skill Level 1 Fabricate, repair, and modify metallic and nonmetallic parts, utilizing such machines as engine lathes, utility grinders, power cutoff saws, armature undercutters, arbor and hydraulic presses, drill presses and their associated attachments, accessories and tools.

Skill Level 2 Perform duties in preceding skill level, supervises lower grade soldiers, and provides technical guidance to the soldiers in the accomplishment of their duties.

Skill Level 3 Perform duties in preceding skill levels, perform metal workers (MOS91F) duties, supervises lower grade soldiers, and provides technical guidance to the soldiers in the accomplishment of their duties. Inspects completed work.

Qualifications and Prerequisites
ASVAB Minimum Score: 
88 total on GS+AS+MK+EI and at least a 92 with VE+AR or have a total of 98 on GS+AS+MK+EI
Other Qualifications: 
  • Normal Color Vision
  • Near and distance visual acuity of at least 20/30 in each eye regardless of whether or not corrective lenses are worn.
  • No more than one error on Titmus Stereo Circles at 16 inches or no errors on 8 positions of Verhoeff Stereoptor at 16 inches.
  • Formal training (completion of MOS 91E course conducted under the auspices of the USA Ordnance Center and School) mandatory; or meet the civilian acquired skills criteria per paragraph (a) below or a waiver approved by the Commandant, U.S. Army Ordnance Center and Schools.

    (a) ACASP qualification criteria. Must have 2 years of experience as a machinist, a combination of formal training and experience totaling 2 years as machinist, be an NIMS level 1 certified machinist.
