German Army

The German army, known as the "Deutsches Heer" in German, is the ground component of the German armed forces (Bundeswehr). There are currently around 70,000 troops in the German Army, but planned downsizing during 2012 will see that number decrease. The country's army is no longer supplied by citizens doing their compulsory service. This fighting force is now all-volunteer and has opened all positions to women.
