I've noticed it's been over 6 days since the last post on these forums. With a school vacation because of Christmas & New Year I expected a lot more questions. I know there are plenty of people listed as being online & onsite.

Don't be shy. The only stupid question is the one that goes unasked. Admin & I are standing by to answer even stupid questions (I hope you don't mind us laughing at you, lol) If you have no questions at least tell us what Santa brought you. He skipped my house when I wanted a new Glock .45. He knows I only have two hands & already own two handguns, lol. I'm taking advantage of my state's new concealed carry law.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. We did in my household. I want to wish everyone a happy New Year. I know at least a few of you will be shipping in 2012 & the best of luck to you. Although you might not think it while you're in BCT/AIT/OSUT but you made the right choice in joining the Army. If nothing else you'll have a steady job for the time you're in. And who knows? Maybe you'll even learn something in the Army.

If you're still in high school or college don't wait until you graduate to contact a Recruiter. It gets pretty nutso in June. You can be in delayed entry for up to a year & you certainly won't ship to basic in less than 6 or 7 months after signing your contract (in most cases) anyhow. The Army won't send you to BCT until you graduate in any case.

Reenlisting????

I am a 34yr old veteran of the Army, and Ohio Army National Guard. 7 plus years. I've wanted to reenlist for a while and thought I had my chance back in Feb when I took my physical at MEPS....and passed. Actually, the only female that did that day. Only to find out that the Army wasn't taking any prior service back on active duty unless they were special forces or infantry....which of course... I can't possibly be. Have they changed this now...are they accepting say a 91E...prior service...Now???

That's definitely a problem. If they told you you couldn't enlist with any MOS other than 18X then I guess that's your answer.

Stay in contact with your Recruiter. Have you stayed in contact with him/her? The last I heard the prior service policy is still in effect. It's always possible that Recruiting policy will change in the future. Give a Recruiter a call right away. They're slower this time of the year.

Have you considered going back into the Guard? Or the Army Reserve? I know that's only part-time but at least it's something & you'll be able to continue to put in time for your 20. The Guard & Reserve are much easier to get into as they have shortages at this time. Some are even giving enlistment bonuses. Each of those Reserve components have separate Recruiters. Give them each a call. The Reserve Recruiters work out of the same offices as the Regular Army Recruiters. Don't waste the 7+ years you've already served.

I have no idea which MOSs are available at your local units. You might require an MOS change & that would mean going back to AIT (maybe even BCT) but at least you'll be on active duty for that period of time & your Guard/Reserve unit might get deployed. With the Regular Army downsizing I feel that the Reserve Components will have a larger role in the defense of the nation.

Good luck! I'd like to see you back in uniform again. I myself went back in after being out of the Navy for 14 years & was able to retire with 27 years of service. It was much easier then.
