Can you volunteer for a deployment and then change your mind? Also if you are an 11x is it common for you to deploy with a 92y? If you are an 11x do they turn you down for volunteering for a deployment that is outside your MOS?

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. If you've volunteered for deployment with a unit other than your own I'm sure you'd have to go with them. If it's your own unit that's being deployed to Afghanistan then you have no choice. That much I know.

11Xs don't get deployed. That's the enlistment MOS for 11B or 11C. They certainly won't deploy to a combat area before they finish Infantry OSUT. By the time they finish OSUT they'll either be an 11B or an 11C.

When a unit deploys they deploy every MOS they have on their manning chart so yes, if your unit has Infantrymen & Supply Specialists they'll both get deployed. You won't be able to deploy with an MOS that you haven't been trained for.
In other words-if you're a trained Infantryman you can't say that you'll go to war as a Supply Specialist without having attended 92Y training. It's the unit's responsibility to assign you your combat duties, not you. If your unit has enough Infantrymen but have a shortage of Supply people & there's enough time before being deployed to Afghanistan it's possible they'd send you to 92Y School.

I think I've answered your questions. I'm really not sure what you were asking. I think I'm still half asleep. If I didn't please reword it in a reply post & I'll try to answer what you actually mean.

Thank you that was very helpful. I did mean 11B my apologies. I was also wondering how the volunteer process worked? How long does it take to get accepted typically? My friend has already been deployed and is considering volunteering for a deployment outside of his unit that deploys in June. Would that be enough time to get in?

I can't really answer ...

...that question. A lot depends on whether your unit will release you & the unit you want to deploy with will accept you. It could go either way.

Can't wait to get in the fight? As I was Infantry I know exactly how you feel. Where else can you use all that training? lol

Contact the unit that you want to deploy with. They can start a request to have you reassigned to them if they want you need you. If you can't do that then try your own chain of command.

In all voluntary transfers the unit that you want to go to has to be willing to accept you & the unit that you're presently assigned to has to be willing to release you.
