This is a bio on myself I'm currently in the national guard I also served for years active duty in the marine corps deployed once while I was in the corps to Iraq in 2003 got out for a couple years and joined the national guard I served two years with 2nd battalion19th Special Forces Group (airborne) support company. I deployed to Afghanistan in 2008 with group and deployed with the 224 AVN BN ECHO COMPANY . I've already talked to a recruiter and their taking my mos (92F) . My question is this once I'm released from guard and assuming everything goes as planned and I get orders cut to return to active duty once at my duty station can I put in a request to go to RASP 1 ? Even though I am NOT airborne qualified ( I never had the chance to go with group because of the deployment). And my second question is the 18X option is open I've worked with these guys overseas and they are the best at what they do , but the problem is ill have to take a rank in reduction to E4 .thanks for your time ...

I can't really say...

...if RASP or 18X is available to you at this time. Your Recruiter will have to check that out for you. I know that Prior Service is treated differently. A while back 18X was the only MOS open to PS.

Continue working with a Recruiter. He'll keep you updated & try to get one of those contracts for you if available. When you get either you'll automatically get Airborne School so that's no problem.

Get yourself into really great shape & if your ASVAB isn't current study for it. I think you'll need a GT score of 110 for SF. I'm not sure about RASP.

Let me know what happens please.

The problem with me is that I am an e5 and they said I would have to get a rank reduction he said they would do a rank determination. And another problem is I'm 31 he said he could get me in but I have to major issues rank and age..... is he blowing smoke up my rear. Thanks

No he's not...

...blowing smoke up your rear. I was under the assumption that the cutoff rank for entry into the Army by prior service was E-4 & administrative reductions for the purpose of enlistment didn't count. I also know that there's an age limit for SF, I think it's 32, but I haven't heard of any for RASP. My son had a man in his mid-30's enlist with an option 40 Ranger contract & he served as an Infantryman in the 3rd Ranger Batt with distinction. Of course policies probably changed by now. Sufficient to say it's hard getting into the Regular Army as prior service & that includes transferring from the Reserve or Guard.

Any information that you get I'd appreciate it if you'd let us know, good, bad or indifferent. Being retired from the Army takes me out of the loop & all my local Recruiter contacts have been reassigned.

RASP and SFAS

I did speak with the recruiter and i went to his office i did see with my own eyes a letter from USAREC and it was fresh off the printer and was released last monday its brand new for the fiscal year and it did say they had slots oppended for 92F and they were for E5. so thats a plus . So the question is how hard is it to get a slot for SFAS once i get to my permanent duty station ????? an option 40 is out of the question.so RASP may have to wait till i can reclass my MOS to a critical skill the 75th Regiment needs last i heard they were wanting 13F pretty bad . and as far as 18X and me being a sargent that option isnt looking to promising. but i could reclass and change mos that way ..... how long do i have to be back active duty time before i can request to reclass im not sure how reclassing works and its an easy thing to do or will it be a B S process. Thanks

It all depends...

...on when you get an opportunity to apply. I'd say apply right now, get it in your enlistment contract to be sure. That way you won't have to go through a unit that might not want to let you go. Even though they're supposed to give you the chance to apply they can always drag their heels to slow things down. By that time the opportunity might be lost, slots closed, etc. The contract should also include 92F AIT & Airborne School. Go for the whole thing right away.

That failing - SF Recruiting Teams will normally go to various Army posts looking for volunteers when they have a need.

Not to be hypercritical it's "Sergeant" not "Sargent".

Thanks for the reply. Im already 92f certified and they are gonna let me enlist with that school so my options are slim can I apply for rasp once I get to my permanent duty station ??????? Also how long do I have to be in before I could reckless to 13F because I can't do it when I enlist all I can go in for is 92F. Because Im qualified in that job and they are letting prior service seargent back in with that job.thanks
