people that adress you as mam when you say im in the military

there was recently a person who asked my cousin if she was in the army when she responded yes. these guys started calling her mam.. yes mam no mam with /all do respect mam. should we tell them they dont have to do that as a civilian

"Ma'am" is just a term of respect to any woman - just like calling a man "sir".

If the person addressing -

- your cousin is an enlisted Veteran & your cousin is an Officer then it's normal. Old habits are hard to get rid of.
