I am gonna be 40 this year and married with two dependents. I am in good health. Can i still join the military. Its been a dream for a long time but i was divorce and heard i couldn't do to single mom. I am now married and have been working out to get my physical fitness back in shape. I would like to do something in the Intel/military police. Do i have a chance?
Sure you have a chance. The Army is recruiting those who are as old as 42.
It's best to see a Recruiter about the possibility of getting the MOS of your choice. It depends on the needs of the Army if there are any openings.
Continue with your physical fitness. Be prepared before you get to before shipping to basic. It'll make it easier on you. You can find charts via Google for your age group & gender. A minimum score of 50 in each event is needed to pass BCT, 60 at AIT & in a unit. The army Physical Fitness Test is comprised of a 2 mile run, push-ups & sit-ups done in a 2 minute period of time each. All are done consecutively with little recovery time between each.
Contact a Recruiter soon. You don't have a lot of time to waste. You might require a waiver & that can take some time to get. A Recruiter wil be able to tell you right away if you make the first cut in qualifying for the Army.
Just last night I heard that the Army might have lessened the maximum enlistment age. The person I talked to said he thought it was now 35.
It's best to talk to a Recruiter about that. Policies change all the time according to the needs of the Army.
Also realize the Active Army, Army Reserve, and your State's Army National Guard each set their own standards - so you'll want to talk to a recruiter from each one.
Good luck!
