Army Basic Combat Training (BCT)is a 9 week course plus about a week at the Reception Battalion when you first get there.
You won't be able to visit with your family but there's a Family Day a day before graduation & a graduation ceremony the next day where the families are allowed to attend. Family Day is normally on a Wednesday & graduation is normally on a Thursday.
Usually immediately following basic you'll attend Advanced Individual Training to learn about the job you choose. It's possible that AIT will be at a different Army Post. The time you'll spend there is variable depending on which job you have.
After graduation your immediate family can sign you out so you can spend some time with them.
Sorry i was just reading what you said, what do you mean by sign you out? You cant just leave on your own?
What I should have said is that after Family Day your family will sign you out if you go off post. You'll have to return usually be 2300 because the next day is graduation. They want to make sure you get back. If you don't have any family there then you'll still have off but will probably have to stay on post. It might have changed since I signed my son out of Ft.Benning in '04 then again it might be different with each BCT unit. After graduation you're on your own, either going on leave or en route to your next duty assignment. Until graduation you belong to the Drill SGT.
how long is AIT for a person that wants to be a motor transport operator
It's a 7 week course.
How long is AIT if you want to be an engineer?
If you mean MOS 21B, Combat Engineer then AIT is 6 weeks long. There are many MOSs in the Engineering group, though.
How long is osut for Military Police? Is 31B a hard to get MOS (due to availability)? Are you issued any more uniforms do to being a 31B ? And my BCT questions... Do you pay for the first ACUs that are given for BCT? When are you given your Class A, B, etc Uniforms?
I believe the OSUT for 31B is 17 weeks - 9 weeks for BCT and 8 for AIT. The availability just depends on the number of slots taken up by others. You'll find out about that before you go to MEPS so you can reserve your slot - talk to your recruiter if you're unsure.
I´m not sure about your uniform questions - your recruiter might know. Or someone else more knowledgeable may chime in.
Your initial issue of uniforms is free for enlisted persons. You'll also receive a clothing allowance for uniform upkeep & replacement. Some units will replace a uniform damaged while on duty free of charge.
