I always here on the commercials "what can the army do for me"? I really decided to find out what really can the Army do for me. I am a 21 yr. old male from Washington D.C. I was wondering if by any chance if the Army can help me relocate to a college in California? How can I make this possible? Would the branch of military matter? How long will I have to serve the military to ensure that my schooling goes successful all the way through until the date of graduation?
I don't quite understand why you expect the Army to help you relocate to a different college. Do you want to be in the Army or do you want to go to school? In the Army you'll be a Soldier not a college student. While you're in the Army you can continue your education online or in some cases there are colleges where you can attend classes while off duty.
Sometimes it's hard to go to classes while in the Army. Count on deployments & training in the field. It all depends on how much time you have at your home station. I know a Warrant Officer, Signal, who is going for his masters right now. His studies were interrupted by a deployment to Iraq.
Once you put your time in you'll be eligible for the Montgomery GI Bill where the government will pretty much pay for a good portion of your education if not all of it. My son did that & so far has his associate degree & he even received a stipend of about $1100 a month while a full-time student with everything paid for. While you're on active duty the Army will help pay for any education at many colleges.
You can do 36 months of active duty in any US Military service and qualify for the New GI Bill. After you leave the military they'll pay 100% of your tuition, plus a set amount for expenses, plus money every month for housing. You won't get rich, but you'll get your education. You can also go into the National Guard when you leave active duty and qualify for additional money for school, plus a small paycheck for serving 1 weekend per month.
Good luck!
