Hello to all,

I am a 23yr old College graduate of 7 months now and I can't find work? I have been on many interviews but all I get is that "Your over qualified for the position" or "You don't have enough experience?" Its to the point that I have noticed that it is not good to come out of college with a degree no higher than an associate's? My point is I am recently married and just had a beautiful baby girl of 1 week and I worry that I will not be able to put food on the table for my wife and child its a scary feeling, I have always done well for myself and went by the book with my education with going to college after high school and furthering my knowledge but in this economy it seems that the more you get in debt with taking out loans the harder it is if you can't find work. I feel like I have to maybe go this route to provide for my family but if I got an IT job today I would not be posting this message. I wanted to post just to see what people thought of my situation before I talked to my family other than my wife. My step father is a West Point Graduate and one of the original Tuskegee Airmen and It has been his dream that 1 day my brother and I would came to him and talk to him about joining it seems that that day has arrived!!!

I know there is someone out there that can relate to this post in some way please post your thoughts!!!

Thank you all for reading and your comments!!!

You aren't the only one...

...in this position. The Army seems to be a good place for you if you want job stability. Because of the civilian job market the Army is very selective in who they allow to enlist. If you're in good health with no medical conditions & have a good police record it shouldn't be a problem.

I suggest that you see a Recruiter soon. Don't wait too long. Around the time of H.S. & college graduation things get very busy at recruiting stations. The present waiting time between signing your contract & shipping is about 6 months depending on which MOS you choose.

As a college graduate you'll enter the Army as a SPC E-4. You can also apply to come in as an Officer Candidate with a 09S contract. Those are hard to get but the possibility is there. You can also enter the Army as an enlisted man & put in an appication for OCS in any time after you're in.

Meanwhile start getting into good physical shape & study for the ASVAB.

Thank you!!!

Thank you!!!

When it comes to medical conditions I had asthma growing up as a kid but doing martial arts for 12yrs of my childhood has helped me control it, there are still times where I need an inhaler but its not an everyday thing anymore???

I have been told by friends that are in the Army that asthma is a big concern???

The Army Requirement...

...is that you have not had any conditions of Asthma after age 13. If you still require an inhaler & still show symptoms on asthma you'll more than likely be disqualified from military service. Even if you were completely clear of it before you're 13th year you'll be told to get a doctor's clearance before you'll be allowed to enlist. At the time of your MEPS physical exam a determination will be made as to your fitness for military duty.

It's best for you to contact an Army Recruiter to find out whether you should look into enlisting.

You're welcome!

See a Recruiter soon. Be honest with him. What will be will be.
