Re:Deployment

Everyone who joins the Army can figure on being deployed. We're a nation at war. All MOSs can expect that but as an Infantryman you're almost guaranteed to be deployed, probably more than once.

Good Choice

I was Infantry for most of my 21 years in the Army & liked it. I can recommend an option 4 Airborne contract if it's action you want & to be almost assured of a deployment although any Infantry unit will be deployed probably more than once during an enlistment period.

So MSG GLenn your saying if you go to airborne school and then go into infantry you have a higher chance of being in action?

That's What I'm Saying

Except Airborne School comes after Infantry (or any other MOS) training.

Well, if you are stationed at

Well, if you are stationed at Ft. Irwin, CA, you won't be deployed from there being in infantry. My husband and I just left Ft. Irwin, CA. I have a few friends that are in the infantry unit and they have been there for 10 years and didn't deploy. They don't have medical non-deployable profiles either.

TRADOC Assignments

You're right Mrs. Shaw. Posts like NTC & any other training assignments will probably keep you from deployment. I know some Drill Sgts & Ranger Instructors, all NCOs of course, that had no deployments whatsover throughout their Army career. There's been some thought that those guys should probably get deployed t least once & then revert back to the training scene so they get some experience in combat. That CIB & combat patch will give a whole lot of credibility to their courses.
