RE: BCT Start Dates

It's pretty hard to determine what date you'll begin BCT. For one thing there is no BCT held in Jacksomville, FL. You must be thinking of Ft. Jackson,SC. You could also be sent to one of the many other BCT training posts like Ft. Leonard Wood, Ft. Benning, Ft. Knox, etc.

You still have to take the physical exam & sit down with a MEPS Counselor to choose your MOS, sign your contract & get sworn in.

At this time it's taking on the average of about 6 months between signing & shipping, give or take a month. Figure on going in June. Of course it's possible that there are earlier openings depending on which MOS you get. That happens sometimes but it's rare.

Have You Gone Through MEPS Yet?

It'll still take about 6 months before you'll ship. That's 6 months AFTER you've signed your contract. I advise that once you get a ship date to get involved in the Future Soldier Training Program. Do some online classes (sort of a pre-basic training), do some PT with your Recruiter, take the Army Physical Fitness Test & if you pass all of the requirements you would enter the Army as a PV2, E-2. One stripe on your uniform & a little extra pay.

I say again - there is no BCT at Jacksonville, FL. If you're joining the Army Reserve then I can see you getting ASSIGNED to a Reserve unit in Jacksonville but more than likely closer to home but you'd still have to go through BCT & AIT at an Active Duty Army post that has those classes - Ft. Jackson, Ft. Leonard Wood, etc. It could even be Ft.Benning, GA, close to your home. Where you'll be assigned a duty station it's strictly according to the needs of the Army.

If you started the enlistment process in April what's taking so long? That's 7 months ago. If you already have a signed contract with an MOS chosen then you should have received orders by now, usually 90 days before shipping unless for some reason you can go sooner.

Because reserves is different

Because reserves is different than active, regaurding being shipped, would the dates for BCT differ?

Reserve/Active Army BCT

The dates wouild be the same. You'd still go to the same BCT & AIT that all Soldiers go to regardless of component - Active Duty, Reserve or National Guard. One Army, same training, same requirements.

I went in on 20101215 and

I went in on 20101215 and they gave me a ship date of 20110110. That's the fastest my recruiter has seen in years. It all depends on the job you get.

You're right

The fastest I've seen lately is about 4 months. If there are immediate openings in a particular AIT/OSUT it's possible that they'll ship faster but most MOS-producing schools are filled.

if i leave the 10th and it

if i leave the 10th and it says i start BCT on the 14th what day would i graduate? I'm looking at Ft. Sill's site and the have 1 grad date one the 17th and 2 on the 18th of March. Got any idea what day?

No Idea...

...what date. Either one or the other.

Are you going to FA OSUT? If it's anything like Infantry OSUT the day before the actual graduation is "Turning Blue Day" where the new Infantrymen receive their blue cords. It just as much of a celebration as the graduation itself.
