Memorial Day is fast approaching, and with it the official start of summer. This summer, the Blue Star Families, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Department of Defense have partnered with more than 2,000 museums (in all 50 states) to give free admission for military members and their families.
The Blue Star Museums program is set to run from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and gives free admission to active duty military members, their family's, including both Reserve and National Guard soldiers. The Blue Star Museum program originally started in 2010 with around 1,000 museums, and has more than doubled in scope in that time.
Some of the museums offering free admission are New York's The Metropolitan Musuem of Art, the National Guard Memorial Museum in Washington DC, the US Army Aviation Museum in Fort Rucker, AL, and many, many more.
